January 2008 - First Kalamazoo BioTuesday Draws Enthusiastic Crowd. Nearly 90 people attended the kick-off session of Kalamazoo BioTuesday, a new quarterly networking and educational forum for life sciences companies and service providers in southwestern Michigan. October 2007 - California Company Relocates R&D Center To Kalamazoo Incubator. (PDF - 283kb) Emiliem, Inc., an oncology drug development company, has relocated its R&D Center from Emeryville, California to the Southwest Michigan Innovation Center.

August 2007 - Anti-cancer drug shows promising results. ProNAi Therapeutics Inc. said Thursday that it had achieved positive results in its first mechanism-of-action studies for its cancer drug candidate.

March 2007 - Kalexsyn to Build New Headquarters in Kalamazoo (PDF - 24kb) Kalexsyn, a medical chemistry contract research firm founded by former Pfizer scientists, broke ground today on a new headquarters building to support its current operation and provide additional space for future growth as the company capitalizes on the pharmaceutical outsourcing trend.

April 2006 - Proteos, Inc., has been recognized as one of the “Michigan 50 Companies to Watch”. Founded in 2003, Proteos is involved in the production and purification of high quality proteins and peptides for research and therapeutic applications. They are important targets for discovery of new drugs, and in some cases they serve as drugs in their own right. Proteos has a customer base that extends world-wide and includes almost all of the large pharmaceutical companies in the United States.

June 2005 - Kalamazoo Companies Emerge as Big Winners in MTTC Funding Awards. Four Kalamazoo-based proposals - including three from tenants of the Southwest Michigan Innovation Center (SMIC) - received part of the Michigan Technology Tri-Corridor funding awarded by Governor Jennifer M. Granholm.

June 2005 - Kalsec Joins SMIC's Tenant Roster. The Southwest Michigan Innovation Center has announced its latest tenant - the 15th company to occupy space at the wet lab facility.

February 2005 - Tech plan creates jobs, risk. The battle is on to convince voters whether Gov. Jennifer Granholm's plan to invest nearly 3 billion of their tax dollars in job creation is worth the entrepreneurial risk.

December 2004 - Tax Exemption for SMIC and its tenants. The Kalamazoo City Commission voted unanimously to approve a tax exemption for the Southwest Michigan Innovation Center and its tenants.

December 2004 - Kalexsyn Scientist Honored for Lifetime Achievement. Dr. Jackson B. Hester, was honored with a prestigious Lifetime Achievement award at the Third Annual Pharmaceutical Achievement Awards in Boston.

December 2004 - Kalexsyn Completes Third Expansion. Just one year after starting construction on laboratory space at the Southwest Michigan Innovation Center, biosciences startup Kalexsyn, Inc. has expanded twice and added more than a dozen employees to its team of former Pharmacia scientists.
