Fred J. Einspahr - Chief Executive Officer

Fred joined the Upjohn Company in 1974 as a research associate in Central Nervous System Diseases Research, and was given responsibility for worldwide R&D Facilities Planning in 1982. Responsibility for additional research services were added over time, which included Environmental Health and Safety, Lab Radiation Support, Lab Instrument Support, Research Stores and Logistics, and the Research Technical Library, becoming Director of Research Services in 1996. Fred led the reorganization and consolidation of services across all businesses in the Kalamazoo Region as Senior Director/ Leader, Site Services, beginning in 2000. This added regional responsibility for Security, the Fire Station and Emergency Planning, Trucking and Transportation, Shipping and Receiving, Site Contracted Services, Office Facilities Planning, and Business Services. Following the acquisition of Pharmacia by Pfizer, Fred began a one year assignment to de-evolve the regional service organization and redesign individual service organizations within each of the businesses in Kalamazoo, and a second one-year assignment to assist R&D in developing and implementing a revised research facility master plan.

Fred earned a Master of Science degree in Physiology and Pharmacology from Iowa State University, in Ames Iowa.

Fred has been married for 33 years and has two children. He is an avid sportsman who enjoys bicycling, racing sailboats, tennis, soccer, and snow skiing, and finds relaxation in reading and puttering in his vegetable garden.


Sandra Cochrane, MBA -- Chief Operating Officer

Sandra Cochrane has been with the Southwest Michigan Innovation Center from its inception. Having led the incubation project from feasibility assessment to facility design and through physical construction, she is intimately knowledgeable of the building and all the services required in a successful incubator. With an education and professional background in business, she is well qualified to assist the companies in the Innovation Center with their business needs. Having worked in many different fields, including education, healthcare, manufacturing, and economic development, Sandra’s diverse career experiences have gained her familiarity with the multiple aspects of business-life with which incubating companies wrestle. Sandra earned a BA and an MBA from Michigan State University. She lives with her husband and two children in Mattawan, Michigan.
